This fanlisting is about the Badlands, located in southwestern South Dakota. It is also for the Badlands National Park. The Badlands were named as such at first by the Native Americans of the region because of their rough texture and the terrain of the area. Definetly not easy going. The jagged cliffs rising out of the ground create a stunningly beautiful yet perilous landscape. You may have noticed I said "rising out of the ground." It's true that these spectacles of nature have arisen out of the ground over millions of years. The different colors banding each are because of different mineral deposits in that area. Each color is a different mineral.

The Badlands are an excellent tourist spot, and provide a lovely scape for watching the sun rise or set. Visitors are permitted to climb on the rocks, but be careful how you go about it; things quickly become steep, and some outcrops are above large canyon-like areas that assure death to those who fall. Bring good climbing shoes.
